3 Main Hardware Failures In Laptops:

1.  Laptop LCD Screen Display
2.  Motherboard or Mainboard Failure
3.  Hard Drive Failure

Laptop LCD Screen Display Failures: Improper use & accidental damage = cracked, damaged laptop lcd screen.

Motherboard/Mainboard Failures:  Lack of proper cooling, blocked internal cooling vents, blocked cooling fan over time will cause excessive internal heat. Motherboard, mainboards or any electronic circuit board does not last long under extreme heat conditons. Spill your coffee on the keyboard which will saturate down to the motherboard,, which IS an electronic circuit board, you just most likely fried the motherboard.

Hard Drive Failure In Laptops: Once again, excessive, prolonged heat will damaged & shorten the life of the laptops hard drive. Combined that with one to many "bumps & drops" also lead to hard drive failure. Fragmented hard drives, virus infected laptops all make the laptop computer work harder, which produces MORE heat inside of the laptops casing,, all bad news for the laptop. I have replaced approximately 40-60 hard drives in laptops in the last 6 months, compared to maybe 1 desktop computer hard drive. And not one of these folks had there important data backed up either!

Laptop Hardware Costs:

2 main laptop hardware components that take the bulk cost in replacement cost, and essential to a working laptop are:

1.  Laptops Motherboard - not cheap, difficult to find replacement, very expensive at approximately 50% of the laptops cost
2.  Laptop LCD Screen - cheaper than the laptops motherboard, at approximately 25-30% of the laptops cost.

Most say,, "I'll just buy another laptop",, thats is your choice, but a new laptop & it's screen will crack just as fast as an older laptop lcd screen. I had one last week, HP $800 laptop, $45 days old, customer closed the lid by the left corner & cracked the screen, which is not covered under HP's, or any manufactures basic warranty,,, "accidental damage, user abuse". HP's thin lid designed, along with tight screen hinges caused the screen to flex, or twist when closing, resulting in a cracked lcd screen on the new laptop. Design defect by HP, but they will not admit to that,, for it's "user abuse" by the owner.

Very important to perform weekly, or at least monthly maintenance on you laptop or any desktop computer.

Laptops are very delicate, treat them that way. If you get 1-2 years out of your laptop, your doing a good job.

For a new laptop/computer with in 3-6 months will "slow down", lock up just as much as your 3 -5 year old computer or laptop, IF not properly maintained. My main desktop computer I personally use 100% at the house is 10 years old, same motherboard, same hardrive and it runs just as quick as the newer computers. It's a "workhorse", and would not trade it in on any other computer!

So a $100-$200 hardware repair cost, or a $89 yearly Computer Tuneup, compared to buying new every year or so at $700++, that is your choice and up to you.

Laptop Repair vs Desktop Computer Repair:

Much more time, especially diagnosing internal hardware problems on laptops over a desktop system. You can get at the internal hardware on a desktop in 30 seconds. Laptop must be fully dis-assembled to get at, diagnose, repair, replace any internal hardware which is approx. 1 - 1.5 hour job just taking apart.
